How to: Spin the Wheel
- Enter names or options, one per line.
- Press Spin and watch the wheel slow down to a winner.
- Optionally remove the winner automatically and spin again.
A spinning wheel turns a dull random choice into a moment of suspense – perfect for classrooms, live streams, team meetings and parties. FreePDF’s wheel spinner draws a colourful wheel from your list, spins with a satisfying slowdown and announces the winner. The winning slice is chosen with cryptographically secure randomness, every slice is equal, and you can remove each winner so the next spin picks someone new. It all runs in your browser with no sign-up.
Common uses
- Pick which student answers next or presents first.
- Choose a giveaway winner live on stream or in a video call.
- Decide what to eat, which game to play or where to go.
- Assign chores, tasks or prizes in a fun, visible way.
- Run icebreakers and quiz games at team meetings.
Tips for best results
- Tick “Remove winner” to work through a whole class without repeats.
- Shorter spin times keep things moving; longer ones build suspense for prizes.
- Up to about 100 entries remain readable; for more, use the random name picker.
- Share your screen in a meeting so everyone sees the spin.
- Duplicate an entry to give it a deliberately higher chance (e.g. bonus entries).
How the spinner chooses
When you press Spin, the tool first picks the winner using crypto.getRandomValues, then calculates an animation that lands precisely on that slice after several full turns, easing out like a real wheel. The visual spin is therefore just a presentation of a draw that is already fair. Equal slices mean equal odds, so if you want weighting, list a name more than once – each copy is a separate slice.
Using the wheel in a classroom
Teachers use wheels to pick students, topics, vocabulary words or review questions. It feels fair to pupils because they can see it happening, and removing winners guarantees that everyone gets a turn before anyone is picked twice. Keep your class list in a note and paste it in at the start of each lesson. Projected on a board, the large canvas is clear from the back of the room.
Live streams and online events
For giveaways on a stream or webinar, paste the eligible names, explain the rules and spin on screen. Viewers see the result at the same moment you do, which builds trust. If you need a written record, also use the random name picker’s download option, which saves a timestamped result. Remember to follow the platform’s rules for contests and promotions in your country.

Frequently asked questions
Is the wheel fair?
The winning slice is chosen with secure randomness before the animation starts, and every slice is the same size, so each entry has equal odds.
Can I save my list?
Download is not needed – just keep your list in a note and paste it in. The online notepad on this site can store it in your browser.
How many names can the wheel hold?
Hundreds technically, but labels become hard to read above about 100. The random name picker is better for very long lists.
Can I change the colours?
Colours are assigned automatically from a bright, high-contrast palette so adjacent slices are always distinguishable.
Does it work on phones?
Yes – the wheel scales to the screen and the Spin button is easy to tap.
Is Spin the Wheel really free?
Yes. Every tool on FreePDF is 100% free with no file limits, no sign-up and no watermarks. The site is supported by unobtrusive ads.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. FreePDF processes your files directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your documents never leave your device, so they stay completely private.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. FreePDF works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Linux.
