An XML sitemap is a list of the pages you want search engines to know about. It helps new sites get discovered, makes sure deep pages are not missed and signals when content changes. Tips for best results

- Regenerate the sitemap whenever you add or remove pages.
What search engines use
Google reads the loc and lastmod fields and ignores changefreq and priority. Bing uses lastmod as a hint too. The optional fields do no harm, which is why the generator offers them, but the real value of a sitemap is a clean, complete list of URLs you want indexed with accurate modification dates. A sitemap does not guarantee indexing – it is a discovery aid – but it often speeds it up on new and large sites.
Cleaning your URL list
Duplicate URLs, mixed http and https versions, trailing-slash inconsistencies and parameters such as ?utm_source make sitemaps noisy. The generator removes exact duplicates, can normalise trailing slashes, and skips lines that are not valid URLs, listing them so you can fix them. Ampersands and other special characters are escaped as XML requires, which prevents the most common “sitemap could not be read” errors.
Submitting your sitemap
Upload sitemap.xml to your web root so it is reachable at https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml. Then add it in Google Search Console under Sitemaps and in Bing Webmaster Tools, and add a Sitemap: line to robots.txt. Search Console reports how many URLs were discovered and indexed, which is a handy health check. Resubmit after large changes; small ones are picked up automatically.
