How to: Meta Tag Generator

  1. Fill in the page title, description, URL and share image.
  2. Watch the length counters and the Google-style preview.
  3. Copy the generated <head> tags or download them as an HTML file.

The tags in a page’s <head> decide how it looks in Google results and when it is shared on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp or X. Getting them right takes a dozen lines of fiddly HTML. FreePDF’s meta tag generator writes them for you – title, description, canonical, robots, language, theme colour, Open Graph and Twitter Card – while counting characters and showing a live search-result preview, so you can tune the wording before publishing.

Common uses

Tips for best results

The tags that matter for search

The title tag is the strongest on-page signal and the blue headline in results. The meta description does not affect ranking directly, but a compelling one raises click-through. The canonical link tells search engines which URL is the main version when the same content is reachable at several addresses. The robots tag controls indexing – use noindex for pages that should never appear in results, such as internal search pages or order confirmations.

Open Graph and Twitter Cards

Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, og:type, og:site_name) were introduced by Facebook and are now read by LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, iMessage and many others. X uses its own twitter:card tags but falls back to Open Graph. The generator outputs both sets, using summary_large_image when you supply an image, so your link appears as a big, clickable card rather than a bare URL.

Where to paste the tags

Paste the output inside the <head> element of your HTML, replacing any existing title and description so there are no duplicates. In WordPress, Shopify, Wix or Squarespace, most of these fields live in the page’s SEO settings, so use the generator to draft the text and then copy each value into the matching field. Static site generators usually accept them in a layout template or front-matter.
